Located on the western portion of Long Island, Queens is home to the two major New York City area airports -John F. It is also home to the New York Mets baseball team, the US Open tennis tournament, Flushing Meadows Park, Kaufman Astoria Studios (where "Sesame Street" is shot at), Silvercup Studios (where "30 Rock" is shot at).
As if that's not reason enough to want to visit Queens, consider this: Queens is the most ethnically diverse county in the nation, offering visitors culture, unique cuisines and interesting shopping. Various neighborhoods are known to be home to various large ethnic communities. Howard Beach, Ozone Park, and Middle Village, are home to large Italian American populations; Rockaway Beach and Woodside have large Irish American populations; Astoria, is home to one of the largest Greek populations outside of Greece, as well as a large Croatian community; Maspeth and Ridgewood are home to many European immigrants, including Polish and other Slavic populations; Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, and Corona make up large Hispanic, Asian American and South Asian communities; Flushing has a large Asian community; Richmond Hill is known as "Little Guyana"; Rego Park, Forest Hills, Kew Gardens and Kew Gardens Hills have large Jewish populations; Jamaica is home to large African American and Caribbean populations; and Bellerose and Floral Park are home to a large South-Asian population.
What's more is that Queens was an epicenter of jazz in the 1940s, giving home to such jazz greats as Louis Armstrong, Count Basie and Ella Fitzgerald. In later years, Queens became one of the epicenters of rap and hip-hop creating artists such as Run-D.M.C., A Tribe Called Quest and LL Cool J. Where better to pay homage to your favorite singers than to visit Queens for yourself.
