What to Leave in the Car When You Check in
Posted by Amanda on 10/20/11
Vacationing on Long Island is a great way to relax. There are so many great things to do and so many great things to see. You can enjoy the sun and the sand or you can visit the zoo. There are many other attractions which are fun to go to for you and the whole family. Without looking too hard, you are sure to find something you will all enjoy doing as you enjoy your vacation on Long Island. The one thing you do not need is to run into any kind of trouble because you were robbed. This is possible if you are not following some simple safety protocols. This does not mean you have to be on your toes every second of the day. Just control certain aspects of your vacation and you will make yourself much less of a target.
The check in is one of the critical times when you need to be on your guard. This is because thieves are known to hang out in hotel lobbies and get a feel for everyone who is checking in. They can get a good look at their bags and everything they might have to offer them. This is why it is a good idea to not carry the entire bandwagon in when you are going to get your room assignment. Simply bring with you what you need to check in. This includes wallets or purses, but not every piece of luggage your family has brought with you.
The important rule here is to make sure you do not leave anything of value in plain sight in your car. If everything of value is stored in the trunk, than you will be fine to leave the locked car while you go inside to check in. Some people will leave their family in the car while they check in to the hotel. This is a decision you will have to make depending on your situation. It is not necessary in many cases for you to do this and the family is sure to want to see the inside of the hotel before you check in. Simply make sure everything is stored correctly before you make the jaunt inside.
If you do feel the need to bring in luggage with you from the car, make sure any expensive pieces of luggage are concealed by other pieces of lesser expensive luggage. This will not work if every piece of luggage you own is expensive, but it can work to protect your thousand dollar Gucci bag with your fifty dollar Samsonite. Just be mindful of what other people see and the repercussions which can befall you if you allow people to see something which will make you and your family a target.
