Understanding Hotel Fees For a Long Island Hotel Stay

Posted by Amanda on 9/20/11

There are multiple fees that come with any hotel stay in Long Island. If you are trying to tightly budget your vacation or stay, you need to make sure that you plan for these various fees.

These different fees can easily change the cost of your hotel stay. You need to think about these fees in advance, and plan for slightly more money than you may originally plan for after seeing the rates of the hotel. While there may be multiple fees for a Long Island hotel, there are four major fees to plan on when budgeting for a hotel.

Room Rate

When you look at a hotel, you get the exact room rate that the company will charge you if you book that room. It is important to realize that this may not be the price that you must pay for that room. Some hotels will give you a special discount on a room if you stay multiple days. Other hotels will give you a slight discount if you ask for it. In the end, it doesn’t hurt to double check the room rate, as you may come out with a slightly lower rate.

Local Taxes and Fees

There will be multiple taxes that you must pay when renting a hotel room. Some of these fees may come from the hotel company itself. Generally, most of the fees come from state and local taxes in Long Island.

Deposit Hold

Most hotel companies will require you to put down a deposit, on top of your hotel room fee, when renting a room. The company will charge you a pre-determined fee. When you are done with your stay, if your room is kept un-damaged, you will get the money back.

Mini-Bar/Fridge

If you are going to a hotel that features a mini bar or mini fridge in every room, you need to make room in your budget for their cost. Anything that you pull out of a mini-fridge will cost you money. Some hotels will pull this from your deposit, while others will bill after you have paid for your room.

It is important to fully understand how your hotel actions may affect your hotel fees. The money will be taken out for a possible deposit before you even stay in the hotel room. You need to plan for this fee as well as for the mini-bar fee. By simply planning for all of these various hotel fees, you can be sure that you will budget correctly.
