The Difference in a Hotel and a B&B

Posted by Amanda on 7/2/11

Vacationing on Long Island is something people look forward to whether they have been a million times before or if it is the first time they have ever set foot on the island. Accommodations are usually booked way in advance to make sure they are getting everything they want to get while they are on vacation in their dream spot. By getting the accommodations out of the way in advance, it makes it possible for you to be able to enjoy your vacation more when you get to the island for your actual vacation. In order to make sure you are getting everything you want on Long Island, it is a good idea to take a look at the different accommodations which are available to you and your family while you are staying.

One of the big things people look into is staying at a Bed and Breakfast. The question many people ask is what the difference is between a Bed and Breakfast and a normal hotel. The argument goes that many hotels will offer you breakfast in the morning as a part of the room cost which should mean it is a bed and breakfast as well, but this is simply not where the distinction for the term comes from.
The reason why a hotel might be called a bed and breakfast lies in the kind of accommodations you will receive and the manner in which you will receive your breakfast. In most cases, your breakfast will be offered in a family environment by the people who run the establishment. This means something beyond a continental breakfast which will be limited in mature. You will often be able to get a breakfast which is prepared especially for you with local items and gourmet preparations.

Many of the bed and breakfast locations will offer you the ability to enjoy your breakfast in your room. They will have a special breakfast nook in your room in which they will lay out all of the food which has been prepared especially for you. This will allow you to simply sit down and enjoy your breakfast rather than having to worry about getting dressed to go and sit with the rest of the guests for a prepared breakfast.

Another distinction which separates a bed and breakfast from a regular hotel is the actual building in which the location is in. Many bead and breakfasts will be in converted homes which are large enough to accommodate many people at once. This will allow you to stay in an environment which is nice and inviting rather than simply welcoming because it is fancy. This is just the thing many people are looking for when they visit Long Island.
