Ask to See the Room Before You Sign
Posted by Amanda on 6/6/10
It is very easy to get caught up in the moment when you are vacationing on Long Island. You get the smell of the ocean in your head and you start seeing the sights the island has to offer and you forget all about your troubles. This is extended when you sign in to the hotel you will be staying at. You do not much look at what it is you are stepping into. You simply take it for granted everything will be good and there will be no problems. The last thing you want to do is to get to your room only to find out is was not what you had signed up for on the website or through their 800 number. This is why it is a good idea you make sure to ask to see the room before you sign the agreement to stay there.
Seeing the room is something which used to be customary in the hotel industry. They would walk you to the room to make sure it was to your liking before they would ask you to sign anything agreeing to stay with them. This was a good way to show off the room you will be staying in as well as making sure you are completely satisfied with the accommodations you will be receiving. This is no longer the practice at hotels as they expect you will be happy with the room no matter where it is they put you. This is your vacation and you should have the opportunity to be happy when you are on vacation. One thing to look for when you look at the room is to make sure it has the right number of beds. You will be surprised how often people will book a double room and will be given a single room instead. Take a look at the number of beds in order to make sure you are getting exactly what you booked for.
If you do not have the room you expected, it is up to the hotel to make it right. They can either give you a new room with the accommodations you expected in the first place, or they can reimburse you some of the price for the hotel room. It is up to you whether you will accept the compromise.
You should also take a look at the view you will be getting in the room to see if it is what you were sold on or not. If you do not have the view you want to have, ask for a room which will give you the view you desire. In most cases, the hotel will do everything in their power to make sure you have the room you want to have. If they cannot give you the room you want, they will often make sure to reimburse you at least part of the cost of your room.
