5 Things to Know about Hotels

Posted by Amanda on 2/28/10

A hotel is often the only way for travelers to enjoy a vacation or stay focused during a business trip. While some people understand how they can get the most out of their hotel rooms, others do not. While some understand how to avoid certain issues at hotels, others are oblivious to these simple tasks.

There is a lot to know about hotels in Long Island. These five tips will give you five different things to understand about these hotels. They will help you to get the best, and the most, out of your overall hotel experience.

Lose the Comforter

While the bed sheets in hotel rooms are cleaned daily, the comforters may not be. To avoid any issues, simply remove the comforter from the bed. If you plan on keeping the comforter for warmth, be sure to avoid actual contact with the comforter.

You Get Charged for the Mini Bar

Resist the temptations that you may have to reach for the items provided in the mini-bar. You will be charged for the items that you eat or drink from the mini-bar. It is important to note that these various items are often over-priced and expensive.

Breakfast is Best Early

If you want to take advantage of a continental breakfast, be sure to hit the breakfast bar as early as possible. Some Long Island hotels will only provide a specific amount of items at their breakfast bar. If you get to the bar too late, you will be left with fewer choices.

The Concierge can Be a Guide

Use the hotel concierge to your advantage. The concierge can easily call a cab for you, making it easy for you to get the ride that you need. The concierge will also know the area will, helping you to find the best places to eat, be entertained, shop, or relax.

You Can Ask for Lower Rates

If you are looking for a hotel in Long Island, talk to the different hotels. Ask these hotels for lower prices. Some hotels will not budge on their prices. Other hotels may be willing to offer you a discounted rate, or may be willing to offer the same price as a competitor. While it may not always work, it doesn’t hurt to ask.

These tips aim to help you enjoy your hotel experience as much as possible. Take these tips in stride, and try to use them to your advantage the next time you stay at a Long Island hotel.
